What is the difference between psychotherapy and coaching?

Psychotherapy aims to help individuals address mental health challenges using evidence-based therapeutic approaches. Psychotherapy focuses on healing and managing emotional and psychological difficulties, fostering deeper self-awareness and long-term well-being.

In Ontario, psychotherapy is a regulated health profession. In contrast, coaching is designed for those seeking to achieve specific personal or professional goals. It’s a more future-oriented process that emphasizes action, motivation, and growth in areas like self-esteem, communication, and performance. In Ontario, coaching is not a regulated health profession.

Both approaches can complement each other, depending on your needs.

Do you offer sessions virtually or in-person?

Currently, we offer sessions virtually. Some of our team members offer services over the phone. We meet at a time that works best for both of us in the comfort of your preferred location.

Do I need a referral or a diagnosis to start working with you?

No, you don’t need a referral or diagnosis to seek our support services. However, some insurance companies may require a referral from your physician if you are seeking reimbursement for psychotherapy services.

Do you provide diagnoses or prescribe medications?

We are not able to provide diagnoses or prescribe medications. If you are seeking medications, please speak to your doctor. If you are seeking a diagnosis, please speak to your doctor or a psychologist.

How much do sessions cost and do you offer a sliding scale?

Our rates vary depending on which team member you are working with. Please refer back to our team page. We have a limited number of sliding scale spots for clients, but these are based on availability and need. Please feel free to inquire further about this if you have a need for reduced rate sessions.

How do I pay for my sessions?

We accept credit cards and e-transfers! Many insurance providers reimburse you for psychotherapy expenses. Please contact us if you need help understanding your coverage or if you have any questions.

Are psychotherapy sessions tax deductible?

Psychotherapists are considered to be authorized medical practitioners for the purposes of the medical expense tax credit in Ontario. Please speak to your accountant if you have more questions regarding how this may apply to your personal situation.

How long are sessions?

The session length depends on which team member you are working with. Please refer back to our team page.

How often should I be coming to therapy?

Many clients prefer to book either weekly or biweekly. This is based on your personal needs and your situation.

Typically, we recommend weekly sessions to start so that we can build a strong foundation and harness your motivation towards your goals. When you’re feeling ready, you may find that reducing your session frequency may help you maintain long term results over time.

How long does it take for me to start seeing results?

Some clients may start experiencing relief after the first few sessions, while it might take a lot longer for others. This varies from client to client. Your journey may look different – and that’s okay!

What is job coaching?

The purpose of a job coach is to support individuals in finding and succeeding in employment by providing guidance in job search, skill development, and workplace adaptation. It is a peer support service and not equivalent to psychotherapy treatment.
